Mindfulness I, II Full Album Released
In 2021, Hyojin Park released the first and second full-length autobiographical albums,
comprised of self-composed songs. During the prolonged pandemic, she went through her work accumulated over the years, spending time to reflect and fully focus on herself. In the process, she handpicked songs written in 2011 and 2012 to unfold the stories throughout the entire albums, and included songs mainly from the performances in 2016 and 2017 in the albums.
The first album <<Mindfulness I. TIME>> touches on the concept of time. The second album <<Mindfulness II. SANJO>> unravels the narratives of each song through improvised rendering of gayageum and Hyojin Park’s vocal, and making changes to repetition. Capturing traces of contemplation on existing traditions, the full-length album, Mindfulness I & II, the result of adding deeper artistic depth, will be a musical turning point for Hyojin Park. Especially, the second album’s songs unfold within the structure of traditional music and its musical elements. They were written to demonstrate the improvisatory and expandability of traditional music. The songs are played by Hyojin Park’s self-made gayageum and each track contains spontaneous elements from the process of the recording. All songs can be enjoyed on music platforms.
